Airworthiness Certification

Our experts have direct experience with certifying Air Force systems and commercial derivative aircraft. We know the FAA and FAA processes and have dealt extensively with the Army and Navy on developmental processes and airworthiness determination of joint systems

Military aircraft are complex and highly capable systems. It requires years of experience to understand what it takes to deliver and sustain airworthy and safe systems. Our knowledge stems from hands on experience covering everything from defining Air Force policy for airworthiness, developing Military Handbook 516B, incorporating airworthiness and safety into systems engineering processes in an effective and streamlined application, leading first flight independent reviews, risk and hazard analysis, chairing airworthiness boards, and certifying systems as airworthy – both military and commercial derivative aircraft.

Our experts can assist industry customers with key Airworthiness Planning and Support, including:

  • Clarifying what is covered in an airworthiness plan, the reasons why it is necessary and what the government expects industry to propose
  • Supporting decisions on what path to pursue: a FAA airworthiness path, a military airworthiness path or a mix of both
  • Building airworthiness criteria into the integrated master plan and technical reviews
  • Preparing for a first flight review
  • Handling a major modification
  • Certifying a joint services program
  • Interpreting policy – MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-STD-882

As part of your government team, Dayton Aerospace can:

  • Develop Tailored Airworthiness Certification Criteria (TACC)
  • Develop Modification Airworthiness Certification Criteria
  • Develop risk and hazard analyses
  • Define technical criteria required to successfully conduct program technical reviews
  • Serve as the Technical Chair for first flight reviews
  • Serve as a member of an airworthiness board
